RE: wire size for two 6 volt

I have 2 gauge wire that runs from the battery to the generator to start it. I am going to run 6 gauge wire to my new xantrex xadc60 charger. The 6 gauge will only be 4'. Will 6 gauge to tie the 6 volt batterys together be good? The length of wire to tie the batterys together will only be about 1 foot.

RE: xantrex xadc install ?

I have a Atwood converter. The Xantrex is too tall to fit in the spot where the charger goes. There is room behind it though. It just wont fit like the old one does.

RE: How to keep fuel nozzle, hose and pump clean???

Has anyone installed a fuel filter on the fuel pump hose? What did you use?

xantrex xadc install ?

I would like to put one of these chargers in my existing converter charger. The space where the charger portion of my converter is located is too small for the xadc. But there is room in the cabinet on the floor behind and below where the charger is. Would it be ok to locate it there? There are some holes in the cabinet that I think will allow enough cooling. I would just need to come up with a way to secure it which should not be a problem. Feed back would be great.

RE: Winterize: Antifreeze vs. blow the lines?

This will be my first winter with my toy hauler. I plan on using it on and off this winter and would really like to just use the air technique because of the ease of use. I did this last spring when I got the trailer and we had some freezing weather, but not like mid winter. I would like to hear from others who use the air method without antifreeze.

RE: Winterize: Antifreeze vs. blow the lines?

I have been draining my lines using the low point drains and then following by blowing the lines with compressed air. I use max 125 psi since you will not damage the lines as long as you have a faucet open. I blow until no more water or mist comes out at each faucet. Never had a problem with this approach. The only antifreeze I use is for the traps. Dick But you live in Texas. Does it ever even freeze there?

RE: hubs and drums getting very hot

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y144/stealman/dripline012.jpg width=640 Dumb question maybe, but why is your magnet on the bottom? Are they all like that? I would pull both wheels on one side of the TT since you have a hot/not-hot wheel on each side of the TT. Look at them side by side and see what's different. The magnet is on the bottom on all of them. I have taken all the drums off and looked at them and played with them. I cant tell a difference. I think as it has been mentioned that I have a sticking magnet on the two hot ones. What I am hopping someone can tell me is how to confirm that? And how to fix it?

RE: hubs and drums getting very hot

How are you determining what is too hot? By touch isn't the most accurate. If you don't have one, get a small infrared temperature monitor. Very handy for troubleshooting. My hot test is to touch them. The hot ones are so hot you cant touch without burning your finger. The other two are cool. Not even warm, unless I have been doing some braking. I don't think I need a temp gauge. I have a problem.

RE: hubs and drums getting very hot

Question: are we talking about wheels on an axle, one side, or one on one axle and the other on the opposite side on the other axle; and if on one axle is it the front or rear? One wheel on one side on the rear axle and the other wheel on the other side on the front axle.

RE: hubs and drums getting very hot

If they still heat up with the plug disconnented, I'd look for tight bearings or bent spindles. The bearings are not too tight. I can wiggle the wheel very slightly and they spin fine. How could I tell if my spindles are bent.

RE: hubs and drums getting very hot

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y144/stealman/dripline012.jpg Here is a picture. Probably cant tell me much from looking at it? I had the electrical hooked up with the worst wheel in the air and I could rotate it with the same feel as when There is no power to the trailer plug. I'm not sure how to take the brake assembly apart? It cant be hard, but I don't see what to do. Any help on that?

RE: hubs and drums getting very hot

I just went out and jacked it up. All four wheels are off the ground. The ones that stay cool easily have as much drag as the ones that get hot if not more. I have tried towing with the trailer plug disconnected from the truck and they still get hot. Wouldn't that rule out any wiring, voltage and brake controller problem and leave me with a mechanical problem? One thing i did notice, is when I turn one of the problem wheels backwards it makes a clicking sound. I'm sure that is not good. But how do I see where it is coming from? If I pull the hub to look then there is nothing to turn. The other problem hub does not do this.

RE: hubs and drums getting very hot

Can we all assume you have WEIGHED your fully loaded TT, and axle weights are similar? Can we assume TT is level when being towed? The trailer is level while being towed. I have not weighed the axles, but I am talking about wheels on two different axles on opposite sides of the trailer. I am not overloaded either, way under the 10400 lbs. rating.

RE: hubs and drums getting very hot

The weird thing is the two wheels that run cool have some brake drag on them too. The two that are getting hot are the left rear and right front. I don't know how to check for stray voltage. I have them all backed off a different number of clicks because they had different amounts of drag when they were at the same clicks. The bearings are fine. And as far as I can tell everything is correct. I bought the trailer used, but it is a 07 and I don't think it saw much use. I am pretty sure no buddy has had the wheels off except for me.

RE: hubs and drums getting very hot

I will back off on the adjuster. How do I get the brakes adjusted evenly from wheel to wheel? If I tighten the bakes up until the wheel will not move and then back off a certain amount of clicks. Each wheel has a different amount of brake drag. I backed off the adjuster and just went by feel. Also on the dexter sight the mention brake synchronization. Is this what I was just asking or what do they mean?

I think I have them all adjusted about the same.

hubs and drums getting very hot

I have two of my hubs getting hot out of four on my trailer. I noticed it on my last trip. I just took all four off and repacked the bearings looked over the brakes and adjusted all of them (electric brakes). I then took it out for a test drive. Two are still getting hot. Cant touch them. I tried unplugging the electric from the truck to the trailer and no difference. When the trailer is jacked up I can spin all the wheels easy and just hear a light rub from the brake shoes. It has to be coming from the brakes because the out side of the drums are way hotter than the center hub. Although, I can not smell brake shoes burning. What is wrong? What should I look at next? I need some serious help. Please

RE: help chooseing a inverter charger

Thanks for all the info. The replacement charger in my existing converter location sounds like a good way to go. I have a Atwood converter charger. I have not called Randy yet , but will. It seems a lot of people use the Xantrex freedom 458. What do you guys think about going that route as apposed to getting a new charger for my converter box. Advantages and disadvantages? The freedom is available from ebay for $400. not a bad price.

RE: help chooseing a inverter charger

If your rig has the old style converter call Randy at bestconverters and get a conversion converter. It is a easy screw in replacement for the lower part of your power center. Get a 55a model. TV and DVR can work just fine on a small 100-175w inverter. A hard wired 375w is even nicer. I bought a Trippe-Lite MSW 375w inverter from Amazon recently for $45.00 for my Son's trailer. Jim What does the conversion converter do? Three way charging? And then just add a small inverter?
